Managing one’s emotions is a key aspect of leadership. Understanding and handling emotions of others is also another major component of leadership. In this segment participants are expected to understand the following key components of emotional management.
Managing Oneself is a foundational skill for effective and competent leaders. Failure to manage oneself is a sure recipe for failure to manage others and frequently leads to personal failure in both work and other aspects of life.
By the end of this module, participants are expected to understand the following key components of Managing One-Self:
- Purpose, values and principles.
- Personal strength and weaknesses.
- Attitude towards others.
- Attitude towards the environment.
We saw in Segment Three how important it is for leaders to manage themselves well before the can lead others effectively. In this segment participants are expected to understand the capabilities required for leading others. Essential skills required to lead others include the following:
- Clarity about how one regards others
- Understanding of the key drivers of human motivation
- Ability to communicate effectively
